Our History
Mission
The mission of Valley Crimestoppers is to rally the community, news media and the police in a collective campaign against crime. Our goal is to help prevent and solve crimes in our community by giving witnesses a way to provide information anonymously. The program is a local chapter of Crimestoppers International (CSI), an organization that grew from the first Crime Stopper program established in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1979. CSI has chapters throughout the world. The program is run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors who come from all walks of life and who appreciate the value of promoting a safe community.
The Dedicated Dozen
Valley Crime Stoppers has recently reactivated a popular fund raising program called “The Dedicated Dozen”. Each month of the year, supportive individuals or businesses throughout the Coachella Valley may donate $1000.00 to Crime Stoppers. The donation is tax deductible and the individuals or business will be recognized and asked to spin the “Wheel of Justice” on KPSP Channel 2 on Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM News Hour. In keeping with their own dedication to the Crime Stoppers program, the Board of Directors of Valley Crime Stoppers started the year 2011 off by collectively donating the first $1000.00, and several members of the board were present for the spinning of “The Wheel of Justice.
At the end of the year, all 12 of the dedicated dozen will be invited to a festive recognition and thank you luncheon, with photo ops and the works.
Since its inception in 1980, Crime Stoppers has paid in excess of $115,000.00 in cash awards, which the Courts and Law Enforcement estimates has resulted in more than $17 million dollars recovered in property, contraband and solved criminal cases in Coachella Valley, and other parts of Riverside County, and……… “you guessed it”!, no one had to reveal their identity or testify in court, and not one penny of taxpayers money was ever solicited or used by Crime Stoppers!
Few organizations can boast of that kind of cost effectiveness! Crime Stoppers is continuing to develop new programs and methods for aiding Law Enforcement in serving their communities. New technology has enhanced our ability to do many more projects, however it costs a great deal to keep a program like this operating, so Crime Stoppers would like to invite and encourage individuals and businesses to help Crime Stoppers assist Law Enforcement and their communities in fighting crime, by stepping up and making their donation to become the next months member of “The Dedicated Dozen”. |
